The paths that run along both sides of the Elbe Lateral Canal are ideal for cycling or hiking. Most of the roads are sand and gravel, but the ground is solid and there are no large or pointed gravel stones lying around that could damage bike tires, so you can cycle here comfortably and relaxed (I have occasionally met cyclists with racing bikes there , but cannot judge how "good" or "bad" it is to ride my racing bike there, since I myself have only cycled there with the touring bike and e-bike).
There are areas in which the canal runs higher than the surrounding landscape, and there you often have a beautiful view of the landscape.

115 km on the western bank path in the morning and 115 km on the eastern bank path in the afternoon. So you usually have sun when there is otherwise a fresh cold wind blowing. There is always something to see, even if the path is flat and mostly straight.

Beautiful bike path on the Elbe Lateral Canal, which is 115 km long. You can also return to Bad Bevensen, partly through narrow forest paths, over the pedestrian bridge.
