In Rotenburg an der Fulda there was already a water mill at this point in the Middle Ages. Until the beginning of the 19th century, water power was used to operate the plant as a grinding mill, blue mill, pearl mill, wood cutting mill and sawmill.
At the end of the 19th century, it was converted into a so-called art mill, i.e. the installation of turbines to generate electricity, as well as further modernization of the mill. After a major fire in the early 1920s, the reconstruction of the hydropower plant took place.
