The Bille is a small river in the east of Hamburg.

It rises north of Hamburg in Schleswig-Holstein, near the town of Trittau. From there the river then takes its way through the Sachsenwald and then finally flows at Wentorf, on Hamburg territory.

In Bergedorf, the Bille then forms the castle pond of Bergedorf Castle, from where it then flows into the "lock ditch".

The Schleusengraben is a canal built in the Middle Ages that connects Bergedorf with the Dove-Elbe and thus with the Stromelbe.

About halfway between Bergedorf and the Dove-Elbe, the Bille leaves the Schleusengraben and flows as a small canalized ditch - the so-called "Kampbille" - towards the port of Hamburg, where it then flows into the Stromelbe.

At the level of the “Bergedorf-West” district, the Kampbille has been partially renatured.

During this work, the "Bille retention basin" was created.

The pool has a size of about half a hectare and is on average one meter deep. As a result, the water warms up very quickly in spring and the fish start their main feeding period very early in the year.

You can of course catch white fish, carp, tench and eels here, but pike also feel very comfortable with so many forage fish.
