    Tips

The whole of National Cycle Network route 7 is a delight, but this segment the route designers must have been in a mischevious mood, very narrow, a 30% gradient (signposted) and lots of gates that you need to open to continue your journey. This section helps cyclists avoid the busy main road if you're of a more timid nature, personally the main road is better than this segment but its still worth cycling this segment at least once to see it and the views across the landscape.

The gates were a bit annoying but it’s only a short section which has them and the rest of the route from Creetown to Newton Stewart is a delight. Avoiding cycling on the busy A75 with lorries thundering past every couple of minutes is worth any small inconvenience.

Lovely bit of old railway line. Stunning views across the valley and estuary. Smooth surface and only a couple of gates to protect cyclists from occasional road crossings. Much, much nicer than the horrible A75 below.
