The holiday village of the same name was built directly around the lake, one of the most important tourism projects in the Schwalm-Eder district. The body of water is used as a bathing lake and as a fishing area with regular stocking of fish. The body of water is currently leased to the SFV Homberg 1939, which also maintains the shore areas. The area around the Silbersee has also been used by mountain bikers since 1998; today there is a course that can be driven on all year round with routes of different levels of difficulty.
