From the 8th century to 1962, the Great Saline naturally used salt water springs to produce valuable salt. White gold, this wealth essential to life, made Salins one of the most powerful cities in Franche-Comté in the Middle Ages.
For me a very impressive place, here the entire facility, which is located in the basement, was very well prepared.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the large saltworks plunge you into a former salt production site. Naturally salty water gushed from the ground, prompting men to exploit it, from the 13th century, in order to extract the precious white gold: salt.
The site is open all year except December 25 and January 1.
