Saint Petronella Chapel

Saint Petronella Chapel is a field chapel on the Heirbaan in Rekem. The chapel is a protected monument since 1981.

The Saint Petronella Chapel in Rekem

The chapel dedicated to Petronella of Rome was founded in 1620 at the initiative of Countess Antonia van Grouffier and Reckheim. It was a brick building in the Gothic style. It was restored in 1750, and in 1879 the chapel was fitted with a neo-Gothic porch. In 1973 the chapel was restored again.
It is a small brick building with a ridge turret, all covered with slates, the floor plan of which describes a single-bay church with a three-sided choir. The windows have a marlstone frame.
The interior contains a wooden altar, with a painting depicting Saint Petronella. Two statues from the chapel are now in the parish church of Rekem.
