The structural remains of the mausoleum are located in a wooded area in a floodplain landscape within the Sundern nature reserve. The area is a silted up river bend in the glacial valley of the Leine. A ring moat was dug around the mausoleum when it was built so that it stands on a small island. A ditch connection to the Hemminger Maschgraben provides for the water inflow (source: Wikipedia)

The mausoleum of Count Carl von Alten is a dilapidated mausoleum in Wilkenburg in Lower Saxony, which has been listed since 1985 in the Lower Saxony list of monuments as a monument. The remains of the Mausoleum are located in a wooded area in a meadow landscape within the nature reserve Sundern. The area is a silted river loop of the glacial valley of the leash. Around the mausoleum, a ring ditch was dug during the construction, so that it stands on a small island. For the inflow of water provides a trench connection to Hemminger Maschgraben.
