The Köhlerplatz am Diebelsborn is located in the middle of the forest in idyllic surroundings and can be reached on foot in about 30 minutes from the towns of Hundshausen or Sebbeterode.
The memory of a centuries-old craft is kept alive here.
In 1996 the idea matured for the first time to build a charcoal kiln in the Kellerwald using old craftsmanship. A Köhler team was formed and the foundation stone was laid. It was unusual when the first puffs of smoke rose from the edge of the forest, but it was also wonderful because everyone knew that an old craft, charcoal burning, had come back to life.
