The water was essential for the dairy, to water the animals and to water the pastures. The stone canal was in operation until 1957, when it was replaced by pipes that were dug in. The Association for the Protection of Art and Architectural Treasures of the Maggia Valley restored the irrigation canal, the Acquedotto di Canaa, between 1997 and 2005 and can be viewed as a cultural monument.
