The nature reserve includes a bog complex in which the lake is embedded. The moor was drained earlier and heavily chipped by peat sting. Birch and pine trees grow in the drier areas and on the peat dams, and bog vegetation grows in the moors. The lake cuts in the eastern area in the mineral underground and is often used with its sandy shore as a bathing area. Further to the west, the water depth increases. Here is the bottom of the river vermoort. More than half of the lake is silted up. In this area, the raised bog is still relatively vital. A disadvantage of the nutrient-poor waters is the inflow of water from a ditch, which drains the agricultural areas in the east.
