The somewhat circular lake has a diameter of about 3.2 kilometers, the area is 579 hectares and the greatest depth is about 13 meters. It was formed during the Ice Age and lies in a hollow in the Berlin glacial valley. It is one of the largest bodies of water in the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park and is a popular water sports area.
