The Luhe, which was straightened in earlier times, has now been renaturized. The work began on September 9th, 2019 and was completed on August 25th, 2020. The Elbe Habitat Foundation extended the course of the river under the motto “More momentum for the Luhe” and made it more natural. Eight new still bodies of water and two tidal creeks with mudflats and connections to the Luhe were created along the Stöckter dike. An earlier meandering loop was reconnected to the Luhe and a new, meandering Luhe section was also built. In total, the run was extended by 334 meters. The Luhe and its floodplain were extensively renatured over a total length of 770 meters at a cost of around 2.3 million euros, thus promoting the natural tidal dynamics.

Nice solid surfaces, from gravel to black pavement. Very easy to drive on. There are benches along the way.
