The heap (former landfill) Grevel is definitely worth a visit. Like many other "mountains" in the Ruhr area, a dumping ground was formed and greened out of a landfill. The locally called "Greveler Alm" heap is now a popular excursion and recreational destination with great views of the area. The landscaped network of about four kilometers of amidst a myriad of shrubs and tree species, together with the ridges, herbs and lawns on the summit, provides new wildlife habitat.
Nearby is the Lanstroper lake. The mountain sinking water is eponymous for the surrounding nature reserve and is located on the Hienbergwald which as well as the nearby Lanstroper Ei are worth a visit. The quartet is looking forward to an extended trip to the extreme northeast of Dortmund.
