The castle dates back to a mansion of the late Middle Ages, which came in the 19th century in the possession of Baron von Loë. In the 1930s, there was a youth hostel in the building. Since extensive refurbishment measures in the late 1980s, it is home to a hotel and restaurant.

Where Adenbach Castle stands today, the Kolventurm was the ancestral seat of the knights Kolf von Ahrweiler in the Middle Ages. In addition to the Kautenturm/Red Tower and the White Tower, the Kolventurm was one of the three residential towers in Ahrweiler.
Today's Adenbach Castle stands in the area of the former Colvenhof, which reached from the city wall to here. The von Colve family, first mentioned in 1225 to 1231, was one of the most important families in Ahrweiler in the late Middle Ages. Their headquarters were in Vettelhoven. There is almost no information on the history of the noble seat. It is not known whether the castle was part of the Colvenhof or the neighboring court of the Barons of Harff-Dreiborn. Around 1560 the Kolwes died out in the male line.
Nothing remains of the original building substance. Today's residential building including the tower was probably built around 1600. Several conversions followed
