The road to Grosse Scheidegg is on both sides (from Grindelwald, as well as from Meiringen/Innertkirchen) a one- to almost two-lane, mostly well-paved path (partially damaged in the upper part), which is mainly used by local farmers and by the Swiss Postbuses ( buses) is used. It is completely closed to cars from Grindelwald (from Hotel Wetterhorn), on the north-east side from Schwarzwaldalp (1450m) at the latest. This means that apart from the inevitable encounters with the buses, which often take up the full width of the lane, there is hardly any traffic and you can fully enjoy the magnificent high mountain landscape of the Bernese Oberland.
If only the road wasn't so steep! The south-east side of Grindelwald is short, but consistently steep, with an average of over 10% and a maximum of around 13%. The north-east side is significantly longer with more difference in altitude, more uneven and in individual ramps up to approx. 15%. A good deal of work awaits you uphill, but your efforts will be rewarded by the grandiose mountains already mentioned.
On the Grindelwald side, the narrow road and numerous sharp bends limit the downhill speed. Please watch out, also for turning tractors and the postbuses! The north-east side can certainly be skied more smoothly from the Schwarzwaldalp, further up it is perhaps still too winding and too bumpy.

Great pass transition for racing cyclists with a magnificent panorama after the ascent from Meiringen towards the north face of the Eiger.
