The Kommiesenpatt takes you on both sides of the border along some former customs officers' and smugglers' paths that still exist today. The customs officers who patrolled the border until the border controls were lifted were referred to as "commies". The region between the St. Vitus stone in the municipal triangle Vreden - Winterswijk - Südlohn and the Burlo monastery can be explored either via the 17.9 km long main hiking trail or via 4 circular hiking trails
