The oil mill at this location belonged to the property of the Oesede monastery, which was within sight. Since the Middle Ages, a whole "mill landscape" had been built up along the Schlochterbach and the Düte in the service of the monastery.

How long did the mills exist?
The Bokemühle served until around 1911, and the oil mill was still in operation until 1930. After the mill was abandoned, the building was left to decay for a long time. It was only decades later that the foundations were uncovered again and two millstones were recovered through voluntary work by the local history association.
A remnant of the old mill can be found today in the waterfall, the gradient of which still shows how the mill used the power of the water. A little further up the Schlochterbach, a remnant of the old reed pond can still be seen in the fish ponds.
