It owes its name to the fact that the carpenter and the miller never agreed on the price to be paid. The carpenter, so to speak, received "ingratitude in return."
Initially, from its construction in 1802, it stood in La Motte-au-Bois, a sub-municipality of Morbecques, a little further into French Flanders. In 1884, it moved to Boeschepe.
The mill remained in operation until 1958. In 1964, the mill became the property of the municipality, and in 1966, restoration of various parts began.
