    St. Mary's Church - Gelnhausen/MKK 🚴‍♂️
    St. Mary's Church, Gelnhausen's landmark, is an imposing building that towers above the old town and the Obermarkt square, making it impossible to miss. Five towers stretch toward the sky, like a hand with fingers gently nudging the clouds.

    The church was built in the 12th century. Around 1120, it was small, with a single nave and no tower. When Gelnhausen became a town in 1170, a more prestigious church was needed. The five-story west tower (bell tower) with a Rhenish rhombus spire and lantern was built, and the hall church was expanded into a three-aisled basilica, with the addition of a transept with apses. The south tower was once the leaning tower; it was righted in 1879.

    The church was primarily built in the 13th century. Expansion phases took place in the 15th and 16th centuries, including the addition of the remarkable altars and interior furnishings.

    This building is highly recommended when visiting the old imperial city (Barbarossa)...🚴‍♂️
