This mill was first mentioned in 1686. In 1956 the operation on the Mulde was stopped as the last surviving ship mill on German rivers. From 1964-67 the mountain ship mill was secured and rebuilt in the former moat of Düben Castle, near the Mulde. In 2002/03 it was rebuilt in the moat of the Düben castle with the old gear parts in the state of construction from 1905. Since the 10th German Mill Day 2003, the large paddle wheel has been rotating on special occasions using an electric motor.
