The castle complex was probably built between 1050 and 1100, but fell to the diocese of Bamberg in 1277 and then probably fell into the possession of the Schlüsselbergers. From 1398 onwards there is only talk of a chapel, the current appearance of which is based on renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries. The pulpit altar in the chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas is particularly worth seeing.
