In 1619, a wooden sea lock with a sylhús (castle guard's house) was built in the dike.
In 1643 and 1669 the lock was destroyed by severe storms and in 1700 a new stone lock was built.
The lock gates are changed twice a year.
In the summer the summer doors and the winter doors served. They were stored in an attic near the castle.
