In 1619, a wooden sea lock with a sylhús (castle guard's house) was built in the dike.
In 1643 and 1669 the lock was destroyed by severe storms and in 1700 a new stone lock was built.

The lock gates are changed twice a year.

In the summer the summer doors and the winter doors served. They were stored in an attic near the castle.

For small boats, passage through the castle was cheaper as only one door needed to open.
