In a joint project in 2014, the Ruhrverband and the city of Sundern significantly changed the course of the water, created new habitat structures and improved the floodplain connection. As a result of the redesign, the Sorpe now has a completely new, heavily tortuous and almost 800 meter longer flow path in its lower reaches. The significantly flatter and wider course of the stream is based on the water type-specific conditions of the Heve in the Arnsberg Forest. The water bed of the Röhr has now been partially shifted to the side and supplemented with high-flow channels.
