In a tourist office in the center of Ruse diagonally across from the Statue of Liberty I booked a ride with a driver and his private car, which for 45 € total price from Russe to Barsabovo and Iwanovo to the rock monasteries, to Cherven to the archaeological site and to Orlova Chuka Rock cave has driven and of course back to Russe. All in all about 6 hours. Absolutely worth seeing !!!!

Basarovo Rock Monastery is just off the actual route south and well worth the detour. Highly recommended visit.
