The University of Coimbra was created by King Dinis in 1290, through the document "Scientiae thesaurus mirabilis," which established a General Study in Portugal. The institution began in Lisbon and was transferred to Coimbra in 1537 by order of King João III, where it was permanently established. It became one of the oldest universities in the world, the oldest in the Portuguese language, and is now considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
