In the vicinity of Götzenhain there are aisles of barite (also known as barytes or barium sulphate), which aroused economic interest during the 19th century in the course of industrialization. After the First World War, in 1921, the Frankfurt entrepreneur Paul Graf received a license to build a barge pit on the "Upper Road". This is how the pit Anna was created. In the following years barite was promoted for the Offenbach-based company Stöhr, who used the mineral as a counterweight in elevator production. Already in the spring of 1928, however, the mining of heavy spar was stopped here and the pit closed.

The former mine has been owned by the city of Dreieich since the late 1990s. In 2002, the Götzenhainer Verein IG Historischer Bergbau leased the mine site and uncovered the small mine under the name "Grube Anna".
