Since 1994, a fully glazed 29-meter-high observation tower has been located on the summit of the 807-meter-high Scheibenberg. When the weather is good, you can leave the interior of the tower and step onto a viewing platform that runs all the way around. Those who climb the 132 steps are rewarded with a wonderful view of the western Ore Mountains with Annaberg, the Pöhlberg, the Bärenstein and of course the town of Scheibenberg. There is a small tower parlor at the tower. Souvenirs are available, and sometimes there are bobbin lace demonstrations. You can also have a small snack, coffee and cake or a refreshment here. Opening times: Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the winter months until 5 p.m.

The predecessor of the modern observation tower was the old tower built in 1891 on the same site. It was named after Carola, wife of King Albert I and the last Queen of Saxony (1833 to 1907). The Queen Carola Tower on the Scheibenberg was 26 metres high and made of basalt and bricks. It stood above the famous organ pipes until 1971, when it had to be blown up.

The old basalt observation tower had to be demolished because it was in a state of disrepair. The new tower celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019. The tower offers a fantastic 360° panoramic view of the Ore Mountains. Even if the visibility is not so good, the climb is worthwhile.
