During Emperor's and King's reigns, during the Nazi era and after the Second World War, soldiers from the Augsburg garrison marched or drove to this almost 66-hectare area, which is marked as a "military shooting range" in some old maps as a restricted area. Until 1918, the General Command of the I. Army Corps was in charge here. It belonged until then to the royal Bavarian "military area".
