The shooting range was created in 1886 in the approximately 2.5 kilometers from the village center of Meringerau or Siebenbrunn remote forest part.
During Emperor's and King's reigns, during the Nazi era and after the Second World War, soldiers from the Augsburg garrison marched or drove to this almost 66-hectare area, which is marked as a "military shooting range" in some old maps as a restricted area.
