    In 1474 the daughter of the Duke of Bavaria married the Prince Elector of the Palatinate. The wedding of Margarete and Philipp went down in history as the "Amberg Wedding". It is one of the largest and most glamorous weddings of the Middle Ages, it lasted 5 days and more than 2000 guests attended. The "wedding fountain" created by the artist Engelbert Süß in 2000 on the market square is a reminder of this.
