The Obere Markt was built as part of the east-west connection (Golden Street) from Nuremberg to Prague in the time of Charles IV (1346-1378). High-gabled houses with former hop dry floors and elevator dormers line the square. At the western end is the Nuremberg Gate from 1444.
The weekly market takes place here on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
