The Oldenburg harbor experienced its heyday around 1900, when ships brought coal and ore from the Ruhr area and colonial goods from overseas to the city on the Hunte. During this time extinguishing devices and larger warehouses emerged. However, since the city harbor offered little expansion possibilities, in 1984 the eastern harbor was put into operation and the city-near harbor was gradually reused for recreational shipping. An old crane is still reminiscent of the once bustling city port.
