The Freemen of Newcastle have exercised their right to graze cows on the Moor (up to 800) from time immemorial, the right to do so having originated prior to the Norman Conquest, more info here freemenofnewcastle.org/the-origins-of-the-freemen

Also, The Hoppings,(funfair), an annual travelling funfair held on the Town Moor in Newcastle upon Tyne, during the last week in June. It is one of Europe's largest travelling funfairs
