The keep, Wassenberg's landmark, is a hilltop castle and is located on the Wassenberg castle hill. It is a four-storey, almost square brick building that was built in the first half of the 15th century (1400-1420). So it's already 600 years old! The keep stands on a hill that slopes down in all directions.
It was once the residence of the Wassenberg bailiffs and bailiffs. The huge Meinweg area was managed from here, and today it serves, among other things, as a lookout tower with a roof terrace from which you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Rur Valley and the Maasland. 7 panorama boards on the viewing platform explain what is where. So you can look in all directions and you can see as far as the Netherlands, Belgium and the Eifel.
