From Château-d'Oex, Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard completed the first balloon circumnavigation of the world. Three attempts were required. The Breitling Orbiter I capsule, on display in the heart of the village, in front of the Espace Ballon (Balloon Museum), was used for the first attempt in 1997.
