Chapel seems almost understated for this elaborately built and decorated church, which is only open for worship.

  • The beautiful Rochuskapelle in the middle of the Rochusberg can already be seen from afar and in the evening is beautifully set in scene by means of Dirvers headlights. The adjacent, small park invites you to go for a walk or stay. At the end of the park there is still a great viewpoint with a wide view of the Rhine Valley.

  • The Rochus Chapel in its present form was built from 1893 to 1895 in neo-gothic style.
The first chapel was built in 1666 and destroyed in 1795 during military actions.
The second version of 1814 was hit by lightning in 1889 and burned down to the masonry.

  • Chapel is absolutely worth seeing, although only the entrance outside the services is open. Adjacent park with great views towards Niederwald and Eltville. Also invite you to rest with some benches.

  • The chapel is since the reconstruction in 1895, although only neo-Gothic but just as beautiful as real Gothic, especially the Hildegardaltar inside left.

  • Saint Roch, to whom this chapel on the Bingen Rochusberg is dedicated, was born in Montpellier, France, in the middle of the 14th century. He is popularly known - along with Saint Sebastian - as a "plague saint". Characteristic of the depiction of Rochus in paintings and as a statue is that he usually points to a plague bump on his leg; Often a dog can also be seen at his feet, because according to legend, when he was caring for plague patients, he was ill himself and withdrew into solitude, providing him with bread every day.
The memorial day of Saint Roch in the calendar of saints is August 16th.
