The path from the Gafiatal to the Rätschenjoch (2602 m) leads just before the pass along the edge of the Gafierplatten. There are two layers of rock that contrast perfectly in color: The bright, geologically younger limestone layer of the Sulzfluhdecke dives under the geologically older layers of the so-called Silvretta crystalline on the east side. It is a dark gneiss that forms the rugged Madrisa mountain stock and weathers to fine debris. In this mineral-rich debris thrives a rich flora.
