The church, built in 1653, is located on an old holy place, on which a torture column, three burial mounds and two linden trees already stood in the 16th century. From 1643 to 1645 a small chapel was built there and an old image of the Virgin was erected. After the discovery of a healing spring, Weihenlinden became a pilgrimage, which came to Weyarn Abbey in 1650. Three years later, Provost Valentin built a large church over the older octagonal chapel, which was consecrated in 1657.
