Before the current Dutch windmill was built in 1819, the first Dutch windmill in the region was built around 50 meters away in 1752. This was built by the squire Langwerth von Simmern. After the first mill burned down in 1795, the new building was initiated in 1819 because the landlord was threatened with the withdrawal of his milling license. However, the new building led to complaints from the master builder because the horses shied away on the Hanover-Minden highway (now the B 65). That is why it was moved to its current location in 1824. In 1835 the Weber family became tenants of the mill, which from 1873 also owns it. The mill tower, which consists of six floors, was built from Deister sandstone and has a gallery typical of this type of mill. The mill can be used at events such as B. the mill day or the discovery day of the region can be visited.

In 1618, the landowner Henning von Reden received the concession to build a post mill from Duke Friedrich Ulrich. It is unclear whether it was actually built. In 1752 Georg Reinhard Langwerth v. Simmern approved the construction of a Dutch windmill, which was soon erected on Mindener Chaussee, today's federal highway 65. In 1795 it burned down to the massive mill tower and remained in ruins for years. In order to avoid the threatened withdrawal of the milling license, Friedrich Langwerth v. Simmern agreed to reconstruction in 1819. The Hanover road builder objected to this because it would stand in the way of a planned relocation of the road. Finally, the half-finished mill was moved 70 m to its current location at state expense in 1824 and began operations in 1826. In 1835 the master miller Johann Heinrich Christian Weber leased the mill; Since then, millers from the Weber family have been running the mill. In 1972 the flour milling operation was stopped. Since 2000, the mill has been renovated by the Windmühle Wichtringhausen mill association, which was founded in 1999.
