On the summit of the Grünberg, now called Zelená hora, there is a Bismarck tower, built in 1909, from which you have a magnificent panorama of the Cheb region with Cheb and Franzensbad, the Ore Mountains, the Kaiserwald and the Bohemian Forest. Also the Kornberg in the Fichtelgebirge we could see. The Grünberg belongs to the mountain range Kohlwald, which begins in the west with the Kohlberg near Arzberg and reaches here shortly before Eger. Many are amazed that the entire ridge to the Czech Republic actually belongs to the Fichtelgebirge. After the Second World War, the entire summit area was restricted area and the border troops used the tower to observe the imperialist, capitalist West. The building decayed more and more and even the citizens of Eger barely knew more about the tower. Only after the opening of the border the summit became accessible again and in 2005 finally the tower could be made accessible to the public again after a renovation.
