The Pantano de Elche is a historic reservoir that holds back the waters of the Vinalopó River. Its construction began in 1632 and, although it has suffered several damages over the years, it remains a place of interest.

Today we walked this route we discovered on Komoot. Along the way, we encountered several sections where the path was blocked or damaged. With this updated .gpx file, you all now have an improved version of this beautiful hike.

Very nice and nice walk, but three quarters of the way (on the west side of the water) you will encounter an obstacle: a large fence with a sign 'prohibido el paso'. There is an orange grove on that spot and that is apparently off limits. We didn't feel like walking all the way back and we heard people working in the orchard, so we asked how we could continue walking. The orchard workers didn't make a fuss about it at all. It was indeed off limits, but we were allowed to continue our walk and they even showed us the way. It smelled wonderfully of orange blossom. The last part of the route is the most adventurous anyway. The path to follow is more difficult to find and sometimes you have to go under or over something.
