The water tower is located east of the district of Lüttringhausen near the federal highway 1 in the Garschager Heide.
It was built in 1914 to supply water to the then independent city of Lüttringhausen on the Garschager Heide on an elevation about 330 meters above sea level. The tower held this function until 1973, when a newly constructed elevated tank in the neighboring Lennep district was put into operation.
After years of vacancy, the tower, which is now privately owned, was converted for residential use and re-slated.
