Until the 1990s, the tannery was the main industry in Hirschberg. After the tannery had to declare bankruptcy in 1992, the factory buildings were demolished. The administration building and the archive were, however, taken over by the city together with a number of tools and machines and transformed into a museum. The museum opened in 1997 and in addition to many information on leatherworking, you will also learn a lot about the history of Hirschberg here.
