The ruins are located at the foot of the monastery hill of Arnstein Abbey near Obernhof in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The parish church in honor of St. When the Arnstein monastery was founded, Margareta was the property of Count Ludwig von Arnstein.
It was a monument of great structural interest from the 10th century or perhaps even earlier and the mother church of 72 daughter churches, say the historians. It had a bell tower with two bells.
A relic of St. Anthony preserved. The precious relic (skullcap) of St. Pope's Fabian had been a carefully guarded abbey treasure for centuries. It is set in silver, like a bowl.
In 1813, the Margaretenkirche was auctioned off to the highest bidder for 500 guilders. The new owner had everything usable ripped out and sold. Tower, gallery, organ and furnishings disappeared. The rest was left to decay. It has belonged to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1949.
