The abbey church in Otterberg was probably built between 1160 and 1170. It was part of a monastery complex of the Cistercian monks in Otterberg. In addition to the chapter house and parts of the outer walls of the Catholic parish house, the abbey church is the only remaining structure of the former Otterberg monastery.

After the Speyer Cathedral, the abbey church in Otterberg is the second largest and most important church in the Palatinate.

I grew up next to it. The special thing about this church is that its builder was buried there behind the altar. The church stands on a swamp area and therefore has countless pumps in the basement area that keep the water at a level so that it does not sink. The organ and also the bells are very important in the religious world. Anyone who has ever been up there with the bells can see the meter-wide dimensions and how they work. There are different rooms in the church, some are used more, some less. The church is connected to the old monastery, it has rooms that normal people can't get into, but I've seen everything since I was a kid. The history behind it is very exciting and should be explained by the pastor. (don't know what the new one is like, unfortunately Mr. Klappa has already passed away and was always open to it, it was his passion). The new monastery garden behind the church is also very beautiful. Invites you to relax.
