The Läppkes Mühlenbach is a tributary of the Emscher near the city limits between Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr and then between Essen and Oberhausen. The watercourse, which was heavily canalized and used as a surface sewer until 1989, has been the first to be renatured since 1991 by the Emschergenossenschaft between kilometers 1.1 and 2.9 as a pilot project.
