Anyone walking through the alleys of Obernburg is actually committing history. Finally, the houses and buildings were built over the foundations of a large Roman fort from AD 83/85.
The main street is called Römerstraße with good reason and corresponds to Via Principalis, the main street of the fort with the camp village and beneficiary administration station.

The mighty medieval city wall with its gates and towers is omnipresent:
The upper gate with a substructure from the first half of the 14th century and the gable roof from 1586. The old tower clock from the 16th century has to be wound up twice a week, but still does its job.
The lower gate, on the other hand, initially served as a city prison. In 1839 it was demolished and rebuilt by order of Bavaria King Ludwig the First.
