The Würm arises from two source streams that have their source in Schönbuch south of Hildrizhausen (“Hildrizhauser Würm”) and south of Altdorf (“Altdorfer Würm”). A few kilometers after their union, it enters the Upper Gäue near Ehningen, through which it flows in a north-northwesterly direction in a slightly sunken, winding valley. Around Weil der Stadt, the most important place on its banks, the valley is spacious and open. At Tiefenbronn-Mühlhausen it reaches the natural area of the Black Forest edge plates, which is characterized by contiguous coniferous forest. As it progresses, the slopes of the winding valley gradually become higher until the Würm flows into the Nagold on the southern outskirts of Pforzheim in the northern Black Forest, just before its own confluence with the Enz.

The Würm is 53.9 kilometers long and supplies the Nagold with an average flow rate of around 3 m³/s from a 418.3 km² catchment area[4]; it is the largest tributary of the Nagold in terms of volume, length and catchment area. Its drop between source and mouth is about 250 meters.

A cycle path has been running through the entire Würmtal since 2009.

At Ehningen, the federal highway 81 crosses the Würmtal with the Würmtalbrücke.

The Würm springs there, and flows to Pforzheim.
