The new, now barrier-free Wolkenburg suspension bridge was inaugurated on May 1, 2017. It replaces a narrower bridge that is less high above the water, which was severely damaged in the 2013 flood. In addition to the Thierbach-Zinnberg suspension bridge, the bridge enables the Wolkenburger Mulderundweg and the hiking trail to Hauboldfelsen from Wolkenburg Castle.

It was originally built in the first half of the 19th century as a wooden footbridge that connected the castle park and an animal enclosure to the right of the Mulde. Numerous bridges have been rebuilt here since then and were later destroyed by natural forces. The new bridge was opened to the public in 2017.
