The Lourdes Grotto was built in 1903. Rohrener carters brought about 100 loads of rubble stones while hard-working helpers from Widdau brought 50 loads of sand from the Rur.
By artificial construction of alluvial stones and pieces of rock, formations of boulders have been created from the outside and inside.
Inside the grotto, there are interesting "stalactites" hanging down, which were created by the rough covering of sand and cement.
The Lourdes Grotto was inaugurated on St. Anne's Festival in 1903. Source: information board
